About Mrs. Kirksey

This is my fourteenth year teaching in Coloma. I have taught many subjects and grade levels throughout the years (music, Spanish, PE, and technology) but I have been back teaching elementary general music for the fifth year in a row! This year I am only at Coloma Elementary teaching our Young Fives group through 3rd grade.
I studied music education, elementary education, and Spanish at Western Michigan University and received my bachelor's degree in 2007. I taught kindergarten migrant summer school in Kalamazoo Public that summer, and then started at Coloma as the Washington Elementary music teacher that fall. In 2012, I received my Master's in Music Education, also from WMU.
In 2013, I was married, and in 2016, we had our son. He is now four years old and will be in preschool this year! My one-year-old daughter is incredibly independent and hilarious. Both of my kids love music, too! :) We also have a dog named Mika and a cat named Gato. This year is going to be a learning experience for us all, but I am so happy to be back working with our wonderful Coloma students!
