Melissa Davis » Welcome!

Welcome to 5th grade! My name is Melissa Davis, and this is my second year teaching 5th grade. Prior to teaching 5th grade, I spent 17 years teaching 3rd graders. Iā€™m looking forward to seeing how much the children have changed over the past year! There are lots of familiar names on the class lists, and I know we will have a great year together.

A little background about me: I graduated with my B. S. and M. Ed. from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, but I grew up in Alabama. My husband, Scott, and I moved to Coloma in 1999 when he  began working at Cook Nuclear Plant. We have two boys- Matthew, a freshman attending Adrian College, and Riley, a 9th grader at Coloma High School and Berrien County Math and Science Center.

I teach science this year, and boy, is teaching one subject fun! We have gotten to do so many more experiments than in other years.

Lab Time!

Today, the PM class tested 3 types of metal (Zinc, Aluminum, and Copper) to see which heated the fastest. We put three dollops of Crisco shortening on the metal strips, heated them over a tea light, and timed them to see which Crisco would melt off first.
